Dessert Plate
In an effort to eat less refined sugar and cut out desserts (cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc.) i have been buying a lot of different kinds of fruit and trying to eat those instead. Jeff and I love having more than just a boring apple or orange to choose from. Recently we have been buying a lot of pears and blackberries. Jeff cut up and plated this pretty dish for us as our dessert tonight! I thought it was so adorable – what nice presentation! I teach him well… haha.
Butters’ Guide to Obtaining Liquids
MORNING BREAKFAST LESSON
*Note: Don’t waste time with the Mister, he doesn’t eat breakfast. Follow the Lady of the house and she will take care of you.
Step 1) When you hear the clanging of cereal hitting the bowl, you are in for a morning treat! Lady is eating her morning cereal complete with cold creamy milk. Even though you’ve just been fed your kitty grain, there will be leftover liquid that must be consumed by YOU (not the drain)! Continue to stuff your face with as many mouthfuls of your pebbles as you possibly can before she sits down to eat.
Step 2) Find a spot close by to her so you can stare while she eats her cereal. Don’t hesitate to jump directly on the table. This is actually most effective as it is the most annoying. Best is when she is on the computer because then you can stomp and her keypad and block her view of the monitor.
Step 3) When you hear a clang of the spoon hitting the bowl, that means she’s almost done eating the yucky cereal and the milk will almost be yours! Start meowing at a constant speed of 1 meow per second.
Step 4) She will put the bowl down next to you and you are free to induldge! Lady owner is very nice and will not almost always remember to leave milk for you.
Step 5) Drink up! You are the master of the world.
Oh Ice Cream. I Scream!
So i’m on my way home from the gym and I pull out my camera at the stop light and think of what to take a photo of today. I happen to look up on the passenger side of my car and notice bright graphics. ICE CREAM TRUCK! No wait — ICE CREAM VAN! (Yeah, apparently all the ice cream trucks were all taken so this friendly looking yellow work van had to suffice for the Rodriguez family.) Oh great, I think, all i want to see right now are tons of different kinds of ice cream that i can’t eat on my NO DESSERTS FOR 30 DAYS DIET! Friggin A!
5k Trial Run
This Saturday I will be running a 5k for charity, so yesterday I did a run around the neighborhood to see what my time is. Before i headed out, I mapped my course on www.FavoriteRun.com so I knew exactly how far 5k is from my house. I also downloaded a cool stop watch on my iPhone to help me track my time. All was going great until i looked at my stopwatch at mile 2 and realized i had accidentally stopped the stopwatch while i checked my pace at mile 3. BUMMER! But i guesstimated it took me about 34 minutes to complete. Pretty much the same pace i’ve been running at last month i did a run. Hopefully I can beat that the day of the race!
Midnight Munchies?
This morning i went to my computer and noticed some suspect crumbs by my keyboard. Immediately i thought Butters had gotten into the leftover cake that Carrie brought over for dessert yesterday. But no, i checked, and cake and saran wrap was intact. Later on during the day i discover a pile of food on the floor, and realize it was the last piece of crusty bread that we had accidentally left out overnight uncovered. Looks like Butters had some chews of it – though was probably too dry for him to devour the whole thing. I made him get up from his nap right then and there so he could pose with his midnight wrong-doings.
Stamp Out Hunger
Today is the US Postal Service’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. It was the perfect opportunity to clean out my cabinet.
Cap’n Crunch had to go because i’m cutting out sugary cereals on my “30 Days No Desserts or Sugar Diet”.
Elbow macaronis because i have 3 boxes of these?! And we’re trying to buy all whole wheat/whole grain pastas, bread and rice from now on.
Tuna because i accidentally bought another 8-pack from Costco when we still had a bunch in the cupboard.
Angel hair pasta because i dont really like super thin pasta to begin with, and again, we are trying to eat whole grain now.
Safeway’s fat free refried beans had to go because this is more a “paste” than refried beans. They taste ok but consistency was gross. Disappointing because usually generic canned goods are not THAT BAD compared to name brand.
Sobe lean actually didn’t get donated because i read the postcard in detail after taking this photo and realized they dont accept glass… but i wanted to give it away because i bought the regular version instead of diet by mistake.
I also gave some Miltons Crackers that i had a container of since i bought a bunch from Costco.
I really like the this food drive — i get to clean my cupboard and donate food to hungry families. It is win-win for everyone….and even the postman gets an extra workout!
Hi-Tech Door
I had a meeting over at Natividad Medical Center this afternoon which ended at 3:30pm so my boss said to go home and finish off the day doing research for that project. I was glad I didn’t have to drive back to San Juan, but bummed I couldn’t just take an early weekend! Well I decided anyway to go over and visit Jeff at work since i don’t ever get to. He was eager to show off a new hi-tech door they installed today which is always locked, unless you touch it from the inside and then it automatically unlocks itself to let you out but relocks it as soon as it shuts behind you. According to Jeff, it does so by the electrodes in your human hand. (So if you had a glove on it wouldn’t work). Fancy.
Fiji Water + Girl
I forgot my friggin’ hair tie this morning so i had to go buy one from the Safeway before i made it to the gym because i don’t have time to go back home before class starts. On my way to the checkout i grabbed a bottle of yummy Fiji water, which BTW tastes EXACTLY like Hawaiian tap water. Mmm the taste of home in a pretty bottle. And hey, notice how the label matches exactly with my new workout shirt? A little self portrait for the day, complete with my Hawaiian car seat covers.
Kitty Paper
Rita came back from her New York vacation today and brought me back a cute jappy kitty notepad! At the front of the pad is a page of stickers, and at the back there are several pages that are printed as origami paper and folds into this kitty character.
She knows me so well. Cuteness + Kitties + Jappy = Diane
Dharma Doll
Jeff and I received a package today from Jill and Greg. Tucked inside the box and cushioned with a sea of newspapers was a pink Dharma Doll and a letter. They created this doll out of paper as a first year anniversary present. Jill wrote about the origins and customs of the Dharma doll as well as the meanings of the Kanji characters that Greg picked out to place on the side of the face. They made it by printing out a template from the Canon Paper Crafts web site and then cut, folded and glued until it came to be in this amazing intricate shape! So creative and thoughtful!
The doll has no eyes because you are supposed to place the left eye when you make a wish and then when the wish comes true, you are suppposed to fill in the other eye. Jeff and I haven’t made our wish yet…
