Finding Daycare, No iPhone, and Other Happenings

iPhone in Rice

Jeff and I went to see visit a new daycare lady on Thursday and while we drove up to her house there was a big puddle at the curb and Jeff says, “Uh oh, be careful, don’t step in the puddle” – and as soon as i open my door, PLOP! My purse turns upside down and empties itself into the water. I gather all my wallet contents (since i never keep my wallet and purse closed) and also dig my phone out from the muddy abyss while swearing a few curse words! Aiyah. Did some research and i guess a bag of rice helps take the moisture away. I also happened to have a few japanese crackers that i know always carries the silica gel packets, so i ripped all those open and made a little concoction for my phone to sit in for 24-48 hours.

So the daycare lady seems great. She is watching a 5 month old boy right now and “he needs a friend” she says! She also has 3 kids of her own, 6 (boy), 9 (boy) and 12 (girl). She starts watching Vincent December 1st.

Jeff was gone this weekend (Friday night through Saturday night) attending a Furthur concert in Monterey with his brother and a few friends. He brought back this cool tie-die onesie!

I had to take care of Vinny all by my lonesome with my bunk hand, AND no iPhone! Psh! It was hard! I couldn’t communicate with Jeff or kill time browsing Facebook while breastfeeding. ALSO! I couldn’t log Vin’s routine. I normally write when he eats, poops and sleeps. Here is a screenshot:

Baby Tracker App

He is still on a 2-hour “eat, play, sleep” routine during the day. At night, we just started swaddling him again so he has been going about 5-6 hours between feedings which is great! Hoping soon he will transition to a 3-hour routine.

Butters and the Baby

Butters is having fun with all the baby stuff to say the least. He likes “change” in his environment like a new box suddenly appearing, or a book sitting on the floor, so the new furniture and toys are just calling his name!

Butters in the Bouncer

His favorite place by far is the bouncer seat! So snuggly!

A day after we get the activity mat...

Not to mention the activity mat that’s usually sitting right next to it.

Butters on the Changing Pad

He has taken a liking to napping on the changing pad that we use to change Vincent’s diapers on. That makes it difficult in the wee hours of the morning to shoo him off with one hand! He can be so stubborn! Case in point:

On the glider with butters

He also likes the glider. He had been taking naps on it since before the baby was here, but once Vincent did arrive, he stopped sitting on it until recently when he rediscovered how comfy it was. When i took this photo i already had Vince in my hand to nurse, and he would not budge from the glider seat! So i said fine, and sat down, and Butters simply scooched over a bit so he was squished under the boppy.

Yes Butters?

Since i’ve been home all day every day, he likes to “cry” for his dinner at the appropriate hour of 2:30pm. Sometimes i give in…. because it will be the only thing to shut him up and a sleeping baby doesn’t need to be awaken by a crying kitty!

Mommy’s Wrist

Bandaged Hand

A few weeks ago my elbow started really hurting, especially at night. It was from constantly holding Vince on my left arm. I think one day i must have overcompensated by holding more of his weight with my hand, and then pulled a tendon or something because now whenever i move my thumb in a certain direction, it REALLY hurts, like its popping out of place. I went to see my chiropractor (since my back was also hurting and i haven’t had an adjustment in ages) and they bandaged it up for me. It now actually feels a lot worse when i happen to move it wrong, but i think its because of the force that trying to keep it in place. Hopefully it gets better soon because it’s really hard to pick up Vinny, change his diaper, put him down for a nap, nurse… um pretty much everything — without using my thumb! Yeouch! I looked it up online and i guess the condition is called Mommy’s wrist aka De Quervain Syndrome.

He Likes the Swing!

Up until a week ago, Vinny only liked to be in the swing for about 10 minutes maximum, then he would start to cry. Now he goes in the swing when he is cranky and will sometimes stay in there so long that he falls asleep in it. He is mesmerized by the mobile and the mirror. It is so funny because he only recently starting looking at it and before when he was younger I thought he would never even notice it. He also just recently stopped liking his pacifier though. But the swing is great, lets me be able to do things around the house without having to hold him or bounce him on the exercise ball.

Meeting Great Grandparents

Grandparents Okuda with Vincent

Last Saturday my Grandma and Grandpa Okuda got to meet Vincent for the first time! He was a little sleepy so they didn’t really get to see him laugh or smile but that’s okay. I took a screenshot at the end of our conversation and it didn’t turn out too well since i had to hold a sleeping Vinny, balance my laptop on the end of the coffee table and take the picture — not to mention direct old people to stare into something they don’t really understand! Haha!

Starting to Hold His Head Up

He is getting a a little better at holding his head up, at least on the boppy. We try to do tummy time everyday for a few minutes to get those neck and back muscle strong!

2 Month Check-Up

Vincent Gets His First Shots

Vincent had his 2-month check up yesterday at the pediatrician. He is now 11 pounds, 14 ounces (50th percentile), 23.5 inches long (75th percentile), and 39.4 cm head circumference (50th percentile). So he is growing right on track with everything, and his head is catching up to the rest of his body!

He had to get his first set of vaccines today which was 3 shots and 1 oral medication. He took all four very well. The oral medicine he ate fine, just had a little funny look on his face. He cried a bit of course when the shots went in but was recovered a few seconds after it was done. They gave him a bone bandaid, a truck bandaid, and a pink butterfly?

When we got home from the doctor he was happy, smiling…. then he fell asleep for a few hours and only woke up to eat and was a little fussy, making his pouty face and whimpering.

Whimpering

When Jeff got home he took care of Vince while i went grocery shopping for dinner and he said the baby cried almost the whole time i was gone. I think he had a fever so we gave him some infant tylenol and that seemed to help because by the time we had made dinner and were eating, he was smiling and laughing again.

The night went ok, he was a little gassy and so i was up pretty often. 11:45p, 3am, 4am, 5am, 6am, 7am…. then got up at 8am and took a 3 hour nap (but didnt let me put him down so i couldn’t rest! i was so tired….). Gave him one more round of medicine and when he woke up from he nap seemed to be back to normal, smiling and giggling.

Vincent Smile

He gets his next shots at 4 months, and i think Daddy will take him that time because i’ll most likely be back to work and he is closer to the pediatricians office.

Packing Away Newborn Clothes

Packing Away Newborn Clothes

Had to pack away his newborn clothes today to make room for his 0-3 month clothes. I went to Babies R Us to get him more onesies because we hardly had any (he kept wearing his green cement truck shirt on all his photos it seems). I got to buy him some boy clothes! Though the selection was not too great. I bought him some more pajamas too. I’m already sad thinking about when he will grow out of these!!

We haven’t been taking many photos of ourselves with Vinny so here are a few. We should take another family portrait soon. Maybe when he is 3 months and my mom is here.
