First Time a Spinnin’
I woke up at 430am this morning to meet my friend from the gym, Angie, for our first Spinning class. When i get there, there are only 3 out of the 20 bikes left! So i grab one, search around for me friend and she is no where to be found… But I workout anyway, get some bike adjustment recommendations from the teacher Dora and pedal away. Of course my butt started hurting about 5 minutes in but I was totally expecting that. I worked up quite a sweat, and realized, it isn’t actually that hard to get up early — just have to set your mind (and your alarm) to do so.
Salinas Shootings
Shit has been going down in Salinas! Like, gang shit and shootings, and shit. Last year this town had a record of 25 homicides. 2009 doesn’t look like its going to be any better with 6 shot dead and 8 others wounded for the first 16 days. Not to mention gun-point robberies at our local supermarket down the road.
So … where are we moving to now?
We Burnt the Chicken
I tried a new recipe from a slow cooker cookbook my mom gave me. It was a recipe for Thai Chicken… and it didn’t really use any “liquid” so when we came home the chicken was BURNT! The house smelled all nasty and so for dinner we went to Quiznos!
Bubble Teas – So Asian
I helped Patti clean out her room today so that she could have less to pack when she moves down to San Diego in a couple of weeks. While going to her house this afternoon, I missed the turn onto her street and ended up at Tapioca Delight! She and I always drink bubble teas together, so I bought a Taro Slushy for her and a Guava Milk Tea for me. Patti said hers tasted like popcorn. Which it did, oddly enough. Mine tasted like Guava luckily. Mmm mmm. Aren’t the covers we got today so cute? How Asian.
Taterpots
This year for Christmas presents I found these cute little window sill planters called Taterpots. They come with 2 peet pucks each and a tiny packet of seeds. Jeff and I planted them today — we had Oregano and Mint. One of the peet pucks had a hard time inflating on its own all the way. But we poked and prodded it until it expanded. We’ll see how they do! We also finally repotted our orchid plant! I feel sorry for all of our plants since we are not very good gardeners.
Sudden Onset of Foggyness
On my morning drive to work, as soon as I turned onto the 156 — BOOM! WALL O’ FOG! I flicked my headlights on and hoped others did the same, because I really had a hard time seeing other cars. I psyched myself up so much while making that left hand turn into San Juan Bautista, that i freaked out when i saw a car heading straight for me while i was mid-turn. There was plenty of time, but I just got scared. Haha, what a mini-dose of adrenaline that was.
Accidental iPhone Picture Snapping
Meeting meeting meetings, all day today. First a conference on Email Marketing in Palo Alto. Then an 11am meeting at NDS Surgical Imaging in San Jose. This is where I was planning to take a picture of a PowerPoint template I did that was displaying in their lobby, but accidentally took a photo of my sign in badge, pen, and the glass counter (with the reflection of the ceiling light). Courtesy of iPhone, deemed 365 worthy.
Cat Can Cook
Jeff fulfilled one of my wishes for Christmas which was a handcrafted apron from one of his coworkers. Its the cutest apron i’ve ever seen because it has kitties on it! It fits a little big on me, but it works. Saved me from dirtying my clothes while making spaghetti sauce tonight. We all know how much that spatters…
A New Year, A New Gym
In the past month, my gym, 24 Hour Fitness, has changed names, dropped the affiliation, changed locations, and lost many group exercise teachers. With that, it was only matter of time that I would switch gyms! So today after work, I drove to Golds Gym and signed up for a membership. I am now paying more – $34/month, but I would rather do that than live with crappy instructors, a terrible sound system, and awful ventilation. Just look at the group exercise schedule — its packed with good classes including spinning! The last time i did a cycle class was in college which is now 3 years behind me. I am way excited to climb those fake hills, listen to the pumping music, and no doubt sweat buckets in that class.
Pupu Book
Jeff and I got Christmas presents from my sister Jill in the mail today. I got a Hawaii cookbook — definitely a must have when living on the mainland! The book is filled with over 100 recipes from the islands — including a whole section dedicated to poke (raw seasoned fish). Mmm mmm.
Jeff got a coffee cup that said “No Coffee no Workee” True that (in Jeff’s case that is).
Pictured is a Butter Boy i got Jeff as a stocking stuffer. It is a holder for a slab of butter so that you can butter your corn on the cob! You stick the butter inside it, lift off the head and butter away!
