Christmas in Florida

Baby's First Christmas

Early this morning we flew in to Orlando International Airport via a Phoenix layover to spend the holidays with Jeff’s parents. We had a lovely late-nite turkey dinner after which we opened presents. Lisa and Mike gave me an egret colored long sleeve turtle neck, a tan vest and a charm necklace. I also received the book “Secret Lives of Bees” which I an looking forward to reading. Jeff received a couple of nice dress shirts and ties.

Jeff showed me a couple of his favorite ornaments on the Christmas tree which I was surprised to discover looked eerily similar to my sister’s ornaments from the same time. One was a flat gold etching of a baby with his name and year written on it. The other was this ball with cartoon characters and the text “Baby’s First Christmas 1979”.

Ribbon Bulletin Board

Ribbon Bulletin Board

Jeff and I opened all of our Christmas gifts yesterday and today. We love our new bulletin board handmade by Taylor! Burned into the wood frame are English words followed by the Hawaiian translation. I just threw on some pictures really quick but when we get back for our trip I want to put a little more thought into what goes up. We posted this on the wall above our mini dining table. Makes our apartment look more homey!

Butters’ Adoptiversary

Birthday Hat

Today marks 1 year since Jeff and I adopted Butters from the Salinas Animal Shelter. We celebrated with a ham dinner (Butters’ favorite!), some presents and a birthday hat. We got him a cool mouse toy that squeaks and hangs off the top of the door so that he can play with it when he is home alone. I wrapped up some cornstarch packing peanuts for him to eat – which of course he loved. I created this hat with a “1” on it to represent one year of Butters being a part of our family.

Here are some of his presentsHam Dinner

Jingle Bucks

Jingle Bucks

On our way home from San Jose on Saturday, at my request, Jeff bought some scratchers while he was purchasing cigarettes. On the ride home, i proceeded to reveal the winning numbers, and by golly, we won! Many times in fact. For this card, we won a total of $10 and on the other card we bought, we got a free ticket. Not much money, but it was really exciting to win so many times.

Scrapbooking for Torie

Scrapbooking for Torie

Finished scrapbooking Torie’s Bachelorette Scrapbook FINALLY. Butters was there every step of the way cheering me on. Well, he more like supervised and kept the papers warm.

Christmas in the Park

Christmas in the Park

We met up with the Worthingtons for Christmas in the Park in downtown San Jose tonight. Twas another cold night, and many many people, plus many many trees, and many many lights, but only one cute little baby girl Sofia who ooohhed and aahhheed at the sights and sounds.

Schipper Shindig 2008

Candy Cane Lane

Schipper Design’s annual holiday shindig was held at Gilroy Gardens theme park. They open the amusement park at night and hold feast in an outdoor tent area. The food was not bad, and the rides were more entertaining than i expected, especially since the park is geared towards little kiddies. The neatest part about it was all the impressive light displays and interesting trees. Twas a bit cold, but definitely a funner party than stuffy cocktails and dinner.

Christmas Package from Hawai’i

Tape Much?

My mom mailed our Christmas presents to us in 3 separate priority mail boxes. OK, but they were taped together and triple wrapped in brown paper. Jeff did the unwrapping but it sounded like (i was in the kitchen making hot dogs for dinner) there might have been a whole role of tape used. Don’t worry Mom! Everything got here in one piece! Butters liked the brown paper a lot, but probably most enjoyed the opportunity to sit on the boxes — at least for the little while that they were all taped together.

Lonely Little (frozen) Leaf

Overnight Frost

The overnight temperatures were below freezing — into the 20s. This morning as woke up and looked out of our bedroom window, we saw the grass area was tipped with frost. I found this lonely leaf all frozen. The rooftops, curbs, and of course cars not lucky enough to be in a garage all had frost over them too. Man am I glad I have a garage for my car! I never have extra time to defrost my car before work, are you kidding me?

Oh Shit, Scrabble’s Anniversary?!

Scrabble 60th Anniversary

Jeff and I decided to play a friendly game of Scrabble in honor of it’s 60th anniversary. It’s hard for me to get him to play with me since I always win. Yes, always. This time, by about 40 points. I keep encouraging Jeff to play more so that he will (eventually) get better beat me one day, but that argument hardly ever works. Look at the funny phrase we made. Didn’t even realize it until after we tabulated our scores.
